Dr. Moore was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio, and completed his undergraduate studies at Malone University before earning his medical degree at NEOMED. He rotated at Summa as a clerkship student and was drawn to the hospital, residency program, and academic environment, ultimately completing his Internal Medicine residency and serving as Chief Resident. He then spent nine years as Clerkship Director, mentoring and recruiting medical students, before becoming Program Director in July 2023. He is passionate about working with both students and residents, loves being on the wards and in clinic with learners, and finds great joy in seeing them reach their full potential. Residents can come to him for mentorship, career advice, and clinical pearls, particularly in inpatient and outpatient medicine as well as point-of-care ultrasound.

Stephanie Zaugg DO, PharmD, FACP

Dr. Zaugg is a proud Northeast Ohio transplant who found her professional home in the Summa Health System, where she has thrived for over 12 years. After falling in love with the system during her residency and chief residency, she now serves as Core Faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency and as the Program Director for the Transitional Year Residency. Her commitment to resident education and mentorship is unwavering, and she’s passionate about shaping the future of medicine. In addition to parenting two children and two fur babies, Dr. Zaugg's spare time includes serving as Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine, Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She actively participates in advocacy by serving as a member of the Ohio ACP's Governor's Advisory Council.In her practice, Dr. Zaugg sees patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, blending her clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach. Outside of the hospital, she’s all about family adventures—whether that’s hiking with her family, making her traditional Sunday night pizzas, or working in her garden.

Joseph P. Myers MD, FACP, FIDSA, FSHEA

I am originally from a small farming town in NW Ohio, did my undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, did my Internal Medicine training at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, and completed my Infectious Disease training at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Medical Center. My career took me from the University of Michigan Medical Center (1980-1981) to Youngstown Hospital Association (1981-1985) and then to Akron holding ID positions at St. Thomas Medical Center (1985-1987), Akron General Medical Center (1987-1996) , and then to Summa Health System where I have held various positions since 1996. I am interested in mentorship through partnership in providing guidance for abstract writing, poster and oral presentation assembly, and manuscript preparation and review. I also love anything ID - I have never had a boring week in my life in ID since 1978! I also love to provide curbside consultation in cases that require detailed ID guidance.

Dr. Rayl is known for his mentorship in professional growth, bedside teaching, and direct observation feedback. Michael Rich MD, FACP

Medical School: The University of Toledo College of Medicine

Undergraduate Education: Brown University

Dr. Rich is a graduate of Brown University and The University of Toledo College of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internal medicine residency at Summa Health, subsequently serving as a full-time member of the core faculty. A recipient of numerous teaching awards, he was selected in 2007 as a Master Teacher by the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Rich is widely published in both peer-reviewed medical journals and American history journals. In that regard, he has the distinction of having his work cited by both The New England Journal of Medicine and by Pulitzer Prize winning historian Ron Chernow's in his biographical book Grant. Having led many hospital committees, he can provide insights into hospital administration.

  • My wife insists that I am a hoarder because I collect so many things (antiquarian maps and books, sports cards, coins, stamps. etc.). I strongly disagree-- would a hoarder keep their stuff organized, inventoried, and on display in a temperature and humidity-controlled room?-- I think not!
  • All four of my children cite my lifelong passion for genealogy as "proof" that I am a nerd-- I'm sure you would disagree!
  • I am also a passionate Cleveland Browns fan. I was born in 1964, the same year the Browns last won a championship-- coincidence or not?

Katherine Tatar MD

Medical School: The University of Toledo College of Medicine

Dr. Tatar is originally from Northeast Ohio and came to Summa for her residency training, where she later served as chief resident before joining as core faculty for Summa's IM Residency. She oversees residents in both the outpatient clinic and on the inpatient teaching service. She serves as the Clerkship Director for the third-year medical students from Northeast Ohio Medical University and works closely with the fourth-year sub-interns. Her passions include direct observation, effective feedback, student and resident evaluations, clinical reasoning, and patient-centered care. She is always willing to talk through clinical questions, listen with empathy, or help think through tough decisions—often bringing her love of decision matrices into the process. Unique to her, she has a lifelong love of math and spicy foods, and she is deaf in her right ear. Outside of medicine, she treasures time with her family and enjoys anything to do with cats, foxes, or red pandas.

Kamal Dayal MD

Dr. Dayal grew up in Gallipolis, Ohio, a small town on the Ohio/West Virigina border. During his fourth year of medical school, he did a rotation at Summa and fell in love with the culture of patient-centered care, respect for learners, team collaboration, and emphasis on wellness. After his residency at Summa, Dr. Dayal joined the faculty and enjoys didactic teaching, precepting in the clinic, and rounding on the med teams. He enjoys helping residents with medical questions about their patients, especially challenging medical dilemmas (He used to watch the tv show, House, before medical school, but now it just seems inaccurate!). As medical director of the Internal Medicine Center (the outpatient residency clinic), he works with a talented group of dedicated providers and staff to train residents in all aspects of outpatient medicine, in addition to providing the best possible care to the patients of the Akron community.

Dr. Albainy is a graduate of the Wright State University College of Medicine. He served as chief resident for Medicine at Akron General Medical Center and has received teaching awards at both AGMC and Summa Health. He was awarded the Barbara Donoho Distinguished leadership in Teaching Award by the Kent State School of Nursing. Dr. Albainy is an Associate Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University and adjunct clinical faculty member at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and at Kent State University School of Nursing. He currently serves as a faculty facilitator for the Reflective Medicine Course at NEOMED.

Irene H. Chenowith MD, FACP

Medical School: University of Toledo College of Medicine

Dr. Irene Chenowith graduated from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Akron General Medical Center, now part of Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Prior to joining Summa Health, she served in numerous clinical, teaching, and administrative roles, both at CCF-AGMC and CCF main campus in Cleveland. She has been involved in medical education her entire career, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. At various times while at AGMC, she served as the Transitional Year Residency Director, the Director of the Internal Medicine Center of Akron (resident clinic), the Internal Medicine Program Director, and later, Director of Medical Staff Affairs. While at CCF in Cleveland, she was part of the Core Clinical Faculty and was an Associate Residency Director. Dr. Chenowith joined Summa Health in 2007, working in a community primary care office as a vernal internist/geriatrician. She moved her practice to the main campus of Summa when she joined the faculty of the Internal Medicine Center (IMC) in 2018. She has been recognized and received numerous teaching award. she always enjoys hearing from former trainees who she often sees in the community or at medical meeting. sDr. Chenowith enjoys working with computers, especially as pertaining to medicine. she worked at LexiComp as a physician contributor to the laboratory data base. In addition to being board-certified in medicine, she is board certified in clinical informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). She encourages physicians to embrace technology "use the electronic medical record to work for you". She is certified by Epic as a physician power user and a physician builder. She serves on several Summa IT committees.

Michelle Cudnik PharmD, BCACP

Medical School: Ohio Northern University - Doctor of Pharmacy

Dr. Cudnik received her degree from Ohio Northern University and is a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist. She has been at Summa for nearly 20 years where she practices in the Internal Medicine Residency Clinic under a Collaborative Practice Agreement. She has many years of teaching experience, both at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and at Summa as the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program Director. Her clinical practice focuses on chronic disease management, with a focus in diabetes management. She enjoys working with physicians on medication reconciliation, quality improvement metrics and enhancing medication access for patients. Dr. Cudnik is always available to assist with medication-related questions and to mentor learners.

Mike Dentler MD

I was born and raised in Canton, OH. My road to medicine started at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH when I was accepted into medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine as an undergraduate freshman. After completing medical school, I then returned to Northeast Ohio to complete my residency and chief residency at Summa Health Akron City Hospital. I then completed a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. I then practiced pulmonary and critical care medicine for about 10 years both in Northeast Ohio and Indiana. I then made the decision to return to general internal medicine and graduate medical education becoming a core faculty member and hospitalist with the Summa Health Internal Medicine Residency. I live in the Canton area with my wife and two daughters. Residents are free to use me as a resource for clinical care issues in hospital medicine, pulmonology, and critical care medicine and for advice when considering fellowships and employment opportunities.

Claire Dolan MD

Dr. Dolan is an Ohio native who spent her first five years as an attending living and working in Chicago as an academic hospitalist. She has experience in medical student and resident education as well as career counseling and contract negotiation. She brings a unique perspective to the residency program with her outside and hospitalist-focused work experience, emphasizing practical management tips and hospital systems guidance to her team. The management of perioperative patients holds a soft spot in her heart as she is married to Summa neurosurgeon Dr. Palmer. Her door is always open, whether in search of career or life advice or a sparkling water.

Meredith Girard MD, FACP

Dr. Girard is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at York Hospital, York, PA. Dr. Girard is Board Certified by the ABIM and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University. She was contributor to the Lexi-Comp clinical online database from 2008-2022. Dr. Girard's role as an academic Hospitalist allows her to interact with residents in the inpatient environment, helping them care for teaching service patients throughout the hospital stay. It is truly one of the greatest pleasures of teaching to see residents grow in confidence and capability through their years of training.

Yoleetah Ilodi MD

Dr. Yoleetah Ilodi is a Core Faculty member for the Categorical and Transitional Year residencies. She chairs the Summa Health System Graduate Education Commitees's Diversity and Inclusion Council. She practices internal medicine and geriatric medicine at Summa Health System. She is the Assistant Dean of Diversity for Northeast Ohio Medical University where she completed a Fellowship in Academic Medicine and currently is an associate professor of internal medicine and serves on the admissions committee. She provides leadership that lends, oversight and strategic vision for policies and initiatives to promote an inclusive and equitable learning environment for students, faculty and staff at the college. Dr. Ilodi earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric fellowship at Summa Health System.

Bryan O'Connell MD

Born and raised in Ohio, originally from Youngstown. Dr. O'Connell went to undergrad at OSU followed by med school at NEOMED and then finally residency here at Summa. Having gone into private practice/primary care I have been able to bring some knowledge of how the business of medicine operates which has led me to creating the business curriculum for the residency program. I'm always happy to talk to residents about anything but I am always happy to talk financial planning, career planning, and burn out related topics. I love traveling and just about every sport so I am always happy to talk!

Diana Stewart MD, FACP

Dr. Diana Stewart is a graduate of the Northeastern Ohio Medical University where she received the Ideal Physician Award from her class. She finished 2 years of Internal Med/Peds residency and then completed the remainder in Internal Medicine at St. Thomas Medical Center (later part of Summa Health). She has served as a resident advisor, and teaching attending physician for inpatient and ambulatory services. Dr. Stewart was recognized for her teaching excellence with the IMC Teacher of the Year award for 2017-18 as well as 2019-2020. Dr. Stewart has special interests in preventive care and Hepatitis C treatment.

Stephanie Ng Tan, MD

As the daughter of Dr. James S. Tan, Stephanie Tan has been lurking the halls of Summa Health System since her childhood when it was called Akron City Hospital. As a teen, she spent every weekend working in the Infectious Research Lab, where she measured antibiotic levels and learned to ignore the smell of Klebsiella. She also grew up creating graphics and editing her father's research submissions. After studying art history in college and graduate school, she returned to Northeast Ohio to pursue a career in medicine and teaching. She has spent her entire medical career at Summa. Given her nontraditional background, she is skilled at visual and physical diagnosis, writing and editing, and creative problem-solving.

Hobbies:

  • I met my husband (Gary Pinta) in medical school and we have three adult children who never had any interest in becoming doctors.
  • Subsequently, our current life involves a lot of traveling to Columbus (where my son is a lawyer), San Francisco (where my younger daughter is a marketing coordinator for Fenty Cosmetics) and Los Angeles (where my older daughter is in film school).
  • When my husband isn't dragging me to Browns, Guardians or Cavs games, I'm usually at home cooking, working in the garden, doing something creative, completing menial tasks or trying to beat my sister's Duolingo score. But, my favorite things to do are outside, and we are lucky to be close to great parks for walking and Lake Erie for boating.
  • With some friends, I started the recycling program at the College of Wooster. So yes, I am that person who always has a reusable bag and composts her kitchen and yard waste.
  • I love animals, but I am allergic to everything. My only "grandchildren" thus far have fur and I have a permanent babysitting gig for one cat. If you hear someone coughing or sneezing in the IMC, it is probably me.

Adrienne Wolfe MD

Dr. Wolfe was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, and is the first physician in her family. She completed her residency at Summa Health. She served as Chief Resident following graduation and chose to stay on as faculty following her Chief year. She has also brings the unique experience of having completed a Fellowship in Medical Simulation. This training reflects Dr. Wolfe’s interest in medical education, mentoring, curriculum development, and the use of simulation as a training modality in medicine. Dr. Wolfe is happy for residents to come by her office for anything, so long as they also want to look at pictures of her Mini-Bernedoodle, Maisy.

Ron Jones MD, FACP
Past Program Director, Transitional Year Residency, Summa Health System. Associate Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency; Clinical Professor of Medicine, Northeast Ohio Medical University

Dr. Jones is a graduate of the University of Toledo College of Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. His primary pursuit was private practice until 2004, when he transitioned his practice to join Summa IM residency as a full-time faculty member. Since that time his interests have included the Patient Centered Home, QI, training physicians to work in clinical teams and wellness. As an educator in the Summa Department of Medicine, Dr. Jones has received nine teaching awards and two program director recognition awards. His most recent leadership position was Program Director for Transitional Year Medicine and he chaired the GMEC committees on Wellness and Core Curriculum until 2023. Dr. Jones has published several papers related to his work with members of the ACGME's Educational Innovation Project. He continues to lead HVM sessions at NEOMED where he is a clinical professor of Internal Medicine. Dr. Jones is recipient of the inaugural Ohio Chapter American College of Physicians Internist of the Year award in 2014.

Dr. Jones currently has served on the hospital Diversity and Inclusion committee and believes active participation in an Equity and Diversity Curriculum is critical to the quality of care delivered by medical learners to their patients.

Dr. Jones is an active cyclist and kayaker and enjoys photography and outdoor sporting and camping in wild places.

David Sweet MD, FACP

David B. Sweet MD, FACP is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio and has served in a variety of leadership roles. He was a founding partner of Summit County Internists and Associates, a multi specialty physician group that was formed to bring skilled educators and clinicians to the Northeast Ohio area. Dr. Sweet is a professor of medicine at NEOMED and currently serves as a member of the national Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine. Dr. Sweet received ACGME's Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach award which recognizes outstanding leadership to the field of medical education. He is a recipient of the Ohio ACP Chapter Laureate Award given for outstanding leadership.
