Internal Medicine Program Aims
The mission of the Summa Health System / NEOMED Internal Medicine residency program is to provide the highest quality education to our residents to train them to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to their patients now and throughout their future careers, thereby contributing to a healthier community. The focus of our educational program is on patient care for those in the greater Akron, Ohio area and throughout northeastern Ohio. Graduates will contribute to improved patient care as general internists providing office-based care, hospitalists, or subspecialists (after completing further subspecialty training if they so choose). This mission is consistent with the mission of Summa Health System which is to “provide the highest quality, compassionate care to our patients and members and to contribute to a healthier community.”
Transitonal Year Program Aims
The Summa Health System Transitional Year residency provides physicians from a diverse background with in depth, experiential learning exposure to inpatient and ambulatory internal medicine in an urban community health setting that emphasizes personal responsibility for patient care and personal and professional growth as clinicians. The residency shares values and rotation assignments with the Summa Internal Medicine residency, such that there is a strong experience of clinical collaboration for transitional year and categorical medicine residents. Beyond clinical competence, the program places special emphasis on continuous quality improvement, professional development and developing a life long strategy to ensure personal wellness.
